Among the National Air and Space Museum’s collection in their location on the National Mall are the famous Wright 1903 Flyer, the Spirit of St. Louis, and the Apollo 11 command module. The National Museum of American History houses an array of American touchstones, including many gowns worn by America’s First Ladies and the Star-Spangled Banner. Day 4: Arlington National Cemetery - Mount Vernon, Virginia - Alexandria
Visit Arlington National Cemetery for a narrated tour that takes you to the Tomb of the Unknowns and the Kennedy gravesites. This afternoon, we call on Mount Vernon, the beloved home of the first U.S. president, George Washington. Wander the beautiful plantation grounds he adored and tour the home, filled with 18th-century artifacts. Next, arrive in Old Town Alexandria, a charming community nestled along the Potomac. Enjoy some time to stroll the cobblestone streets, view the historic Colonial architecture, and stop at some of the trendy boutiques. This evening we dine at Gadsby’s Tavern, located in the heart of Old Town Alexandria and famous for hosting George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and other founding fathers. Day 5: Washington, D.C.
This morning, visit the Washington National Cathedral. This magnificent church took 83 years to complete and has been host to many poignant moments in America’s history such as state funerals, Presidential inaugural masses and Martin Luther King, Jr.’s last sermon. Admire the beautiful craftsmanship of the cathedral as you learn more about its history during a docent-led tour. This afternoon, visit Ford’s Theatre* where President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated on that fateful night in 1865. Tour the theatre and hear about the timeline of events that transpired as John Wilkes Booth’s plan unfolded. Finish your tour with a visit to the neighboring Petersen House, the boarding house to which the fatally injured Lincoln was carried. Day 4: Ballachulish - Isle of Skye - Ballachulish
Take a stunning drive along the “Road to the Isles” and over the Skye Bridge to the legendary Isle of Skye, also known in poetry and song as Eilean a' Cheò (The Misty Isle). Enjoy dramatic views of the Cuillin Hills. Then, visit Armadale Castle & Gardens* and the Museum of the Isles to learn about island life and the history of Skye. Conclude your visit with views of the isle from yet another vantage point during a ferry crossing back to the mainland. Day 5: Ballachulish - Loch Ness - Thurso
Today, enjoy stunning and unspoiled landscapes as you journey further into the Highlands. Visit the striking ruins of Urquhart Castle before enjoying a cruise on Loch Ness, one of Britain’s most scenic bodies of water. Keep your eyes open — you never know when Nessie will appear! Travel through the Great Glen, famous for its many lochs (lakes). Your day concludes in Thurso. Today breakfast will be included.

Day 6: Thurso - Orkney Islands - Thurso
A day of adventure awaits as you voyage by ferry to the Orkney Islands** – once a Viking stronghold off the coast of Scotland. On the crossing you’ll see abundant bird life and, if you are lucky, porpoises and seals. A local guide introduces this magical place that very few visitors to Scotland get to experience. Visit Skara Brae where you will discover the remains of a Neolithic village built at the same time as the Great Pyramids in Egypt. Next, pass the prehistoric Ring of Brodgar, reported to be older than Stonehenge. Visit the town of Viking Kirkwall before returning to the mainland. Today breakfast and dinner will be included.

Day 7: Thurso - Eastern Highlands
Today you will visit Culloden Battlefield. On this spot in April 1746, a half-hour battle changed the course of Scotland’s history. We also stop at the majestic Dunrobin Castle*** which dates back to the 1300s. Take in the breathtaking views as you drive along the windswept cliffs of Scotland’s east coast. Explore the park, stopping at various lookouts on our way to Newfound Gap, which boasts views of both sides of the Smoky Mountains – those in Tennessee and North Carolina. Back in 1895, George Vanderbilt II decided to build himself “a little mountain escape” in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. The result was the impressive and decadent grandeur of the Biltmore Estate. Today, tour the sprawling mansion, adorned for the holidays with hundreds of elaborately decorated trees, wreaths and poinsettias and enjoy a wine-tasting at the historic Biltmore Winery. Then, set sail for Ocho Rios, Jamaica where you can dance to amazing Reggae music.
